Experiments in Comedic Writing with Andrea Staats

Mondays, October 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2022
6 PM – 8 PM AKDT
Via Zoom
$140 Members | $165 Non-Members

This class takes place on more than one date (October 3, 10, 17 & 24) but must be registered for as a single class.

Join playwright and stand-up comic Andrea Staats for a series of writing experiments designed to put you in touch with your own comedic voice. You’ll explore what’s funny to you and why, and how to incorporate humor into your writing, regardless of genre. Our first session will explore comedy and what makes people (especially you!) laugh, and for each following session you’ll complete a comedic writing experiment which you’ll share and discuss. Bring tissues, because the goal here is to laugh so hard you cry!

Andrea Staats is a Florida theatre artist, educator, and comic, originally from Anchorage, AK. She holds an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College, where she was awarded the Lipkin Prize for excellence in playwriting. She was selected for the September 2022 cohort of the St. Nell’s Humor Writing Residency, where she plans to work on a new solo show, Rowdy Trish’s Alternative Mormon Experience. Career highlights include bursting into tears while performing stand-up at a skate park in Foley, AL, and becoming TikTok famous for finding a lizard in her pants.
