She grew up in Portland, Oregon and earned an undergraduate degree at Colby College, where she studied with the poet Ira Sadoff. She earned her M.F.A. from the University of Arizona. Her mentors there included Richard Shelton, Allison Hawthorn Deming, and Steve Orlen. She won a graduate fellowship while there and began her teaching career at Pima Community College in West Tucson.
She’s been writing and publishing poems for over 30 years. She primarily writes lyric and narrative poems, and has recently begun to work extensively with form poetry. She’s currently working on a trilogy of persona poems.
