Write to the Light: A Workshop on the Art and Craft of Opinion Writing with Kim Heacox
Mondays, March 20 & 27, 2023
7 – 8:30 PM AKDT
Via Zoom
$55 Members Only
This class takes place on more than one date (March 20 & 27) but must be registered for as a single class.
Join Alaska author Kim Heacox for a two-part zoom class on creative opinion writing: how to build effective arguments by using story, science, satire, irony, humor and history, with special emphasis on persuasion theory – pathos, ethos, logos – as an artful way to speak truth to power, change hearts and minds, and hopefully inspire readers to wake up and see the world (and their place in it) as they never have before. Part one of this class will end with a writing assignment to be discussed in part two.
Bio: Kim Heacox is best known for two of his books, The Only Kayak, a memoir (2005, 2020), and Jimmy Bluefeather, a novel (2015), both winners of the National Outdoor Book Award, and for his opinion pieces in The Guardian, where he writes about the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and threats to U.S. public lands.
