Reading & Conversation Series
49 Writers’ Reading & Conversation events, which are free and open to the public, connect authors and audiences on topics related to the craft of writing.
The one-hour programs generally begin with a short reading followed by a brief craft talk and a question and answer session. When held in person, Reading and Conversation events are followed by book sales and book signings.
During virtual events, participants are encouraged to purchase the authors’ books through links to online vendors in Alaska.
The 49 Writers Crosscurrents program unites authors and audiences through lively discussions on a wide range of themes related to writers and their work. Programs may feature an individual writer or a panel of writers, and are typically moderated by a notable Alaskan writer familiar with the chosen terrain. The format may be online through Zoom or other platforms, or in-person at local public venues. 49 Writers welcomes ideas from our membership for both topics to be covered and guests to be featured, and encourages you to send them to info@49writers.org.
Special Events
49 Writers is always eager to take advantage of unique opportunities to support Alaska’s writing community through exciting and innovative public programming. We’ve sponsored public readings by some of the country’s foremost writers, worked in cooperation with other organizations on national reading and writing initiatives like the Big Read and Alaska Reads, and supported local writing events organized by our members statewide. We encourage anyone with a special project idea that might fit our mission to contact us at info@49writers.org.
