the 2013 Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award. The deadline is December 1, 2012.

The Alaska Quarterly Review First Friday Series will be hosted by Jitters Café (11401 Old Glenn Hwy, Eagle River, AK) on Friday, November 2, 2012, 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The featured readings are selections from the Fall 2012 30th Anniversary edition of the Alaska Quarterly Review. Musical Guest will be the UAA 2:30 Jazz Combo. Sponsored by the Alaska Quarterly Review, the AQR First Friday Series brings together creative voices in visual, performing and literary arts.

Friday November 2, 7pm, this year’s Dead Writers reading and raffle
will take place at the Blue Loon, Fairbanks. The event, now in its 22nd year,
features performances by professors, students and community members dressed as
famous deceased writers, with door prizes awarded between each reading. The
proceeds of the event are in support of the Midnight Sun Visiting Writers
Series, which brings world-renowned authors to UAF to perform readings of their
work for the university and Fairbanks community free of charge. Tickets for the event will be available at the
door beginning at 6pm. Admission
costs are $12 for attendees with a Polar Express card, or $15 for general
admission. Cost of admission also includes a raffle ticket. For more

Women of Words, a weekly writers group, is looking for new members. Our group has been active for three years but we’ve recently lost several people who moved Outside. We are a small and informal group, and we consider supporting each other in our writing endeavors as important as doing critiques of each others’ work. Most, but not all, of our members have been published. We are looking for a few intermediate or advanced writers, and possibly one or two beginners.
