a measure of splendor in people’s hearts.

Hold fast to dreams
for if dreams die
life is a broken-winged bird
that cannot fly.
–Langston Hughes
I had to search for this quote from Anne Lamott as I'd lost it in the last move, but it spoke to me when I read it enough to print it out and post it on my wall above my computer. There are scads of quotes online from the book where I found this in "Bird by Bird," but not this particular one:
"After thirty years or more of floundering around and screwing up, you will finally know, and when you get serious you will be dealing with the one thing you've been avoiding all along–your wounds."
I keep Kurt Vonnegut's 8 rules for writing fiction by my computer also.
Good thoughts, all. What funny stuff we're made of, that we need both dreams and wounds to create.
