2021 Poetry Broadside # 6: COURAGE HAIKU By Mandy Ramsey, Haines

COURAGE HAIKU
By Mandy Ramsey, Haines

Mountain slides to sea
in fertile winter darkness
broken town unites.
~
Why bright lights go out
my broken heart needs to know
Have they become stars?
~
Sunlight greets my eyes
my courage tattered and torn
Yet we have survived.
~
Enjoy each moment
Every day a sacred gift
Presence is the key.
~
Worry does not serve
this moment is all that counts
Live your gratitude.
~

Author’s Note: This haiku flow was written in the heart of the 9-day storm in December 2020 in Haines, Alaska, that took lives, homes, mountains and roads, and a piece of my heart in a place that has been my home for 22 years.
