Joan Pardes: Looking Back, Investing Forward

Style, voice, theme, plot, characters, place, reveals, sentence structure–the tools of the trade fascinate me.  I’m also a ‘new start’ junkie so as 2014 comes to a close, I’m looking through my rear view mirror to see what worked for me as a writer. Currently, my toolbox is chock full of 49 Writers products. I’ve taken courses, read the blog, followed several members (and the organization itself) on social media sites, attended the bi-monthly Juneau Writing Group meetings and joined a 49 Writers Fiction Critique Circle. When I think about the resources available to our every-growing group, I’m amazed at what we accomplish in any given year!
I started 2014 as a word dabbler (poems, essays, non-fiction articles) but I’m ending the year committed to one project and a serious writing practice.  I know that my association with 49 Writers has helped me grow – and stay on track – as a writer. Looking forward to 2015, I’m excited about participating in even more courses, networking with emerging and published writers, and digging deeper into my own writing process.

As a board member, I want to thank you for being a part of 49 Writers. Your membership dues, participation fees, and contributions fuel the organization and create more programming opportunities. I also want to ask you to consider investing in 49 Writers via Alaska’s Pick. Click. Give.

The campaign opens on January 1, 2015, along with the Permanent Fund Application. It’s simple and easy – just select 49 Writers as the recipient of a portion of your dividend (minimum contribution $25) during the online application process.
Investing in 49 Writers is a win-win because your dollars translate into more programming, literary resources, and networking opportunities.

Plus – there’s some swag involved:

  • The possibility to double your dividend
  • $75 donors  – Set of original Alaska art cards from Taku Graphics
  • $150 donors – Autographed book by an Alaskan author

Thanks again for being a part of the 49 Writers Family. And here’s a special shout-out to the members I’ve met along the way (in Juneau and throughout the state) – your presence, feedback and support are appreciated! As for the rest of you, hope to meet you in 2015 – or at least read your work.
