For those of us who thought we might get a break from Sarah on this and other blogs … and for those of us who thought it was too late to make book money off the Sarah phenomenon: Galleycat reports the rumor (emphasis on rumor) that Sarah Palin is being offered $7 million to write her autobiography. Now, we all know she can’t string those sentences together without help. Ghost writers, prepare to stand by.
P.S. I mention this item to my husband, and he notes: She won’t read anyone else’s book — or at least won’t name the books she reads — and yet she expects other people to read hers? Do her biggest heartland-of-America fans read at all?
my question: how much would you have to be paid to write Sarah Palin’s autobiography? What’s your ghost price?
Hmm. What would MINE be? Hmm.
Oooh, that’s a hard one. No pithy answer, unfortunately. As a ghostwriter I’d feel I’d done a good job as long as I accurately conveyed the story the non-ghost (or whatever you call the person being written about) wanted to tell. But what if you write something that helps that person into a serious leadership role? Ish.
Ask me again in February. That’s when the heating bills will be highest.
also…
(you know i’m at work too late tonight because i’m thinking about this seriously)
if you price yourself too low, you’ll be a total, well, intellectual whore. plus, in theory there’s a lot of money in it for the writer. but if you price yourself too high, some person with no scruples who is desperate for whatever renown (or ignominy) they can scrape from the experience will scoop it out from under you.
it’s SO difficult.
